For eight years in a row, Orchard Park has been rated “Best of Utah County Rehabilitation Facilities” by Daily Herald readers.

Tucked behind 800 North in Orem — and surrounded by remnants of the orchards that give the facility its name — sits a care center that has been known in the community for excellent patient care and services for more than 40 years.

Serving short-term rehabilitation patients and long-term residents with respect, professionalism and little extras is what has made Orchard Park Rehabilitation & Healthcare a successful business that plans on sticking around for years to come.

“We take a holistic approach to treating our patients,” says Jared Swain, an Administrator at the 65-bed facility that has been operating in the middle of Orem since the 1960s. “We do the little things that make a difference in the healing of our residents.”

Those “little things” include free massage therapy, spa treatments, manicures, pedicures and hairstyling as well as the finest in physical therapy, dietary services, medical treatment and communication with loved ones.

“Each week we have a meeting with the family to discuss all parts of treatment, including anticipated discharge dates and any concerns or questions they have,” Jared says. “It’s a great way to keep family members informed.”

Orchard Park staff members also work closely with doctors, ensuring the best care for their patients. In fact, the high level of service has enabled the facility to work with doctors who don’t work with any other facility.

“One unique aspect of Orchard Park is its relationship with many physicians, which is rare in skilled nursing. Not only do we have the weekly services of our medical director, Dr. Peter Duros, but we also work with Dr. Douglas Schow, our following orthopedic surgeon. Dr. David S. Hilmo works with Orchard Park as a physiatrist and as the medical director of rehabilitation services, monitoring our patients care,” Jared says. “That’s a big deal since no one else in skilled nursing in the state has that kind of continuity of care.”

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia among older adults. Alzheimer’s involves parts of the brain that control thought, memory and language and can seriously affect a person’s ability to carry out daily activities. Although scientists are learning more every day, right now they still do not know the cause.
