Book ’em: Most popular books at the Provo Library


If you’ve read “The Book Thief” by Marcus Zusak and live in Utah County, join the club. Scratch that. If you’ve read “The Book Thief” you’re probably already in the club — the book club that is.

The novel by Zusak is currently the No. 1 book club title at the Provo Library at Academy Square. Does that make it the most loved book at the library? Not really. It’s nearly impossible to track all-time circulation totals because once a copy of a book is taken off circulation — like when it’s damaged and needs to be replaced — its record goes with it, said Carla Zollinger, adult and teen services manager at the Provo Library at Academy Square. Well-loved books in high demand are frequently replaced with fresh copies and new circulation records that don’t reflect their popularity.

Book club titles are one way to get an idea of what people in the valley are reading. Even though we can’t definitely say these are the most checked-out titles in circulation, these books are definitely among the best of the best when it comes time to pull out the library card. Keeping in mind that older titles have the advantage, here is a list of the top 10 book club titles at the Provo Library at Academy Square:

    Our book club read The Book Thief a couple of years back. We all loved it! I highly recommend it.
