Disney released it’s first teaser trailer for the live-action “Beauty and the Beast,” which won’t be in theaters until 2017.
The trailer gives a quick tour of the Beast’s castle and a brief glance of Belle, played by Emma Watson, looking at the Beast’s rose. Watson plays opposite of Dan Stevens, best known for his role as Matthew Crawley on “Downton Abbey,” who plays the cursed prince.
The star-studded cast includes Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, Luke Evans as Gaston, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, Josh Gad as Le Fou and many more. Audra McDonald — who performed at Hale Center Theater Orem in 2010 and was on the cover of Utah Valley Magazine — is Garderobe, the magical wardrobe.
Over the past decade, Disney has been remaking some of their classic picture films into live-action movies including “Alice in Wonderland,” “Maleficent” and “Cinderella.” “The Jungle Book” is the most recent live-action release. Because of the success of these films, Disney has announced multiple live-action movies including “Cruella,” “Maleficent 2” and “Tinker Bell.”
The live-action “Beauty and the Beast” isn’t being released in theaters until March 17, 2017, which is the same day as BYU’s new one-day Spring Break.
