From the Point of the Mountain all the way down to Santaquin, Utah Valley has a lot to offer — especially in weekend activities. There are no excuses for staying in all weekend when there are these quality events happening around Utah Valley. Here are five of our picks for the upcoming weekend:

Salem Days

Salem needs a hero — or many of them. With a theme of “City of Superheroes,” everyone is a hero. This weekend’s events include a children’s parade, car show, fireworks and more.

When: Aug. 6–13
Where: Various locations in Salem
Cost: Varies on event
Site: salemcity.org

“South Pacific”

Take a trip from Utah’s mountains to the South Pacific with this 1949 musical. You’ll get more than the island feel as the characters tackle issues surrounding racism. Read the preview of the show here.

Where: SCERA Shell Outdoor Theatre
Cost: $12–$16 for adults; $10–$14 for children

“The Croods”

Summer vacation may be coming to an end, but those warm summer nights aren’t. Grab your blanket or a chair and enjoy one more free outdoor movie. “The Croods” tells a story of a caveman family as they venture away from their safe cave into the mysterious unknown.

When: Aug. 12 at dusk
Where: Community Center, 547 South Locust Ave. in Pleasant Grove
Cost: FREE
Site: rec.plgrove.org

“The Music Man”

We’ve got trouble right here in Sundance with a capital “T” that rhymes with “P” that stands for play. Take a break from the summer heat with a cool night watching “The Music Man” in the mountains. Observe Harold Hill, a traveling salesman, swindle the innocent town of River City, Iowa into starting a band for their children. Laughter’s included in Hill’s sale of the show. Read more about the musical here.

When: July 21 – Aug. 13 at 8 p.m.
Where: Sundance Summer Theatre
Cost: $22–$36
