David Archuleta returned to the pop music scene on Thursday with a new song, “Numb.”

A lyric video on YouTube shows the message of the song — continuing through life despite the pain and trials that accompany the journey.

In February, Archuleta blogged about the difficulty of returning to music as a career when music had become a way to help people feel a connection to God on his LDS mission.

“For some reason I had some of the most fulfilling performances of my life singing for one or two people at a time, without the applause or notoriety of crowds — no way of keeping track of social media’s hits, likes, or views,” Archuleta wrote.

In his blog he expressed his desire to find a producer that helped him focus on the “simple but special moment, instead of the pursuit of being ‘the hippest, biggest and greatest.'”

The original song is the first pop music song released by Archuleta since returning home from his LDS mission to Chile.

His post-mission releases of religious songs include a song he wrote for the 2015 Especially For Youth Album, “He Showed Me How,”  and a song he wrote in Spanish about family history, “Nunca Pensé.”

Archuleta also recorded “Glorious” from “Meet the Mormons” while serving as an LDS Missionary.
