Julee C. Kowallis, of Provo, has been selected as a member of the Kindermusik International Maestro Program for the second year in a row. The Maestro Program recognizes the top 125 Kindermusik programs in the United States. Julee teaches music to 175 students aging from birth to 7 years old each week. (www.km-ajoyfulnoise.com).

Lehi’s Jaclyn Hunt represented our state as Miss Utah at the Miss America pageant in September. Hunt made it to the top 10.

The People’s Choice Award for the 2001 Utah Valley Parade of Homes was given to David A. Lewis of Lewis Development Corporation. Lewis was the general contractor for David and Nance’s Springville home, “Once Upon a Dream.” The home featured Disney accessories, including a Mickey weather vein, a fireman’s pole and a fabulous playroom.

City Block Films Inc. has bought the production and broadcast rights to the short story “No Regrets” by Provo author Randy Jernigan. The film will be the third in a film trilogy dealing with love and romance in the modern world. “No Regrets” is from Jernigan’s  anthology series “This Thing Called Love,” a publication of Writers Club Press, New York.

Lehi’s Tom Lewis has qualified for the Wilderness Circuit Finals, Nov. 1-3 in Ogden at the Golden Spike Arena.  Lewis also won the 2001 Wilderness Circuit All-Round Rookie of the Year and the 2001 Wilderness Circuit Steer Wrestling Rookie of the Year. He is in the running for the rookie of the year in steer wrestling for the Professional Rodeo Cowboy’s Association. Lewis  rodeoed throughout high school at Lehi High School and for three years at UVSC.

Alpine’s Tammy Waite represented Utah at the Mrs. America Pageant where she won 4th runner-up on Sept. 21.

Leah Kemeny was crowned Miss Provo earlier this year by her sister Sara Kemeny, who occupied the title in 2000. Leah, 17, is the youngest Miss Provo ever.

The Utah State Fair gave several awards to Utah County participants.

First place in the Keebler Kracker Stacking Family Fun Contest, Matthew Jossee, age 10, Cedar Hills.

First place, Hormel Chili “Fast and Fabulous” Recipe Challenge, Mary Hardin, Provo. The 2001 Miss Utah State Fair is Larissa Kanno, 20, of American Fork.
