Orem’s contest finds the weakest link

As a spoof on body building competitions and beauty pageants, Gold’s Gym and KISN 97 hosted a Mr. Puniverse competition in November.

The contest aimed to find the weakest man in Utah.

Contestants had to arm wrestle a girl, fight their way out of a paper bag, flex their muscles and scream like a girl.

Interview questions included “What movie made you cry?” and “What are you scared of?”

Nearly a dozen men competed, and the winner was Ryan Simmons of Provo. Ryan won $1,000 and a Gold’s Gym membership. Other prizes included a year’s supply of milk, snowboard and airline tickets.

News stations from around the country ran footage of the local Mr. Puniverse contest, which was held at Orem’s Gold’s Gym. Even Craig Killborn mentioned the contest on his late-night show.

Gold’s Gym plans to make it an annual event.
