When Kevin and Diane Pritchett starting planning their retreat, they knew they wanted it to be close by and comfortable. With the help of Linnea Bowles, interior designer with Upstairs Downstairs, they created their dream cabin near Scofield Reservoir.
Now the family entertains friends and relatives in their sunny cabin just an hour south of Utah County.
The Pritchetts took nearly two years to complete their cabin, and now they are reaping the rewards of their patience and hard work.
The family enjoys playing indoors and outdoors — Diane is known as the family ping pong champion, while Austin takes the prize in pool. Outdoor gaming is even more of a draw for this active family, which owns The Car Source in Orem and Spanish Fork.
“We wanted a place to bring our family together,” Diane says.
In the two months since its completion, their plan has already come true.
The Great Room Cabin owner Diane Pritchett says the main-floor family room works well for entertaining. Diane’s father is a brick mason and did the stone work on both the exterior and interior for the Scofield cabin. Interior designer Linnea Bowles says this room came together especially well. “The lines and windows make you feel good in this space,” she says. The Family Kevin and Diane Pritchett have three sons: Travis, Austin and Cody. The family enjoys recreating together in all four seasons. The Basement Family Room “This room is a fun place for our kids and all their friends to gather,” Diane says. One goal for their cabin was to be a place where they could be with their children and create memories together. The Bunk Bed Room The downstairs bunk room provides plenty of sleeping for guests. Linnea Bowles of Upstairs Downstairs convinced the Pritchetts to paint the walls a dark color. “I never would have dared paint walls green without her help,” says Diane Pritchett.
The Exterior The Scofield cabin offers recreation in all seasons. In the winter, the Pritchetts enjoy snowmobiling right from their cabin patio. The stone work was completed by Diane Pritchett’s father, who is a brick mason.
Getting There The Pritchetts originally bought their lot at Aspen Cove at Scofield as an investment, but decided to build their dream cabin on their land. “We love the idea that there’s a lake where we can recreate and fish,” Diane Pritchett says. “I’m not a ‘roughing it’ person, but it doesn’t feel like roughing it out here. We have everything we need at Scofield.”
The Dining Room This dining room looks onto both the kitchen and two-story family room. “With cabins, we’re often dealing with less square footage,” says Linnea Bowles, interior designer. “Every space has to count and create functionality.”The Main Floor Bedroom The Pritchett’s cabin includes both a main-floor and second-story master bedroom. This main-floor bedroom is mostly used as a guest room. The spacious bathroom is located just off the main-floor master.Lighting It Up The Pritchetts worked with Wasatch Lighting to acquire the right lights for their Scofield cabin.
Gary Price Original Kevin Pritchett, who owns The Car Source in Orem and Spanish Fork, traded a car for this Gary Price original that he showcases in the main room of his month-old cabin.Master Bedroom Diane Pritchett’s favorite room in her Scofield cabin is her second-story master bedroom. “I love the logs, I love the window, and I love the fact that it has enough room for a chair,” Diane says. “It is a nice place to relax.”
