Utah Valley Magazine is pleased to announce the winners of our 2003 Amateur Photo Contest. We received more than 100 entries when we solicited photos of our readers’ “favorite things.” Here are a few of our favorites.

#1

FIRST PLACE

Sharon Murphy

Pleasant Grove

“This is my husband, Joel, my grandson Parker Wimmer and our dog, Jake, in Kamas. We had just been riding horses and Jake had been chasing the cows so we were tired. My husband was lying down and my grandson joined him and so did the dog. They were just relaxing after a favorite day of riding horses.”

#2

SECOND PLACE

Ingrid Sorensen

Provo

“This is my sixth child, Joseph, who was three months old at the time. He was laying asleep on my bed on a white quilt on a Sunday afternoon. The light was coming in and I took all kinds of pictures of his features. This one turned out really great.”

#3

THIRD PLACE

Stephanie Lovell

Pleasant Grove

“These are twins, Megan and Rendan, both age 7. They sold toys and lemonade and popsicles and enjoyed counting their money. They did the whole thing on their own. All I did was help them set up the table. They didn’t make a lot of money, but they sure were excited about making and reaching a goal.”

#4

FOURTH  PLACE

Rick Darling

Salem

“The picture is of my daughter, Cassidy Darling. She was actually rolling around on the trampoline and the static stood her hair up like a dandelion.”

#5

FIFTH  PLACE

Diane Heap

Spanish Fork

“This is my grandson, Jackson. He went down with his grandpa to visit our horse, Shadow. He was just trying to get the halter on the horse, like his grandpa does, but it wasn’t quite working.”

#6

SIXTH  PLACE

Kimberly Wilson

Orem

“This is my nephew, Porter, and my husband out playing with squirt guns on Porter’s third birthday. It’s really cute because it totally catches Porter’s personality and it’s just a kid at play. ”

#7

SEVENTH  PLACE

Craig Nielsen

American Fork

“This is T.C. Taylor at Lake Powell in Slick Rock Canyon. We were on ‘dawn patrol’ and got up very early in the morning because we wanted to get the good water.”

EIGHTH PLACE (tie)

“This is a photo of my feet in the sand when we were in Barbados on a cruise. Being outside at the beach and relaxing was great.”
