Twelve-year old Debora Vargas of Spanish Fork was Grand Marshal at this year’s annual WinterFest parade. Vargas, who was born with congenital heart disease, was selected for the spot through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. She appeared in the parade as Grand Marshal on Nov. 29, 2003.

 

Kristina Willey, 15, won first place at the Utah State Fair Music Competition on viola. The Pleasant Grove High School student was then selected as a guest soloist with the Utah Symphony and the Utah Valley Symphony.

 

Lynette Southwick, of Orem, has released “Called to Scrap,” a book full of scrapbooking ideas for missionaries. The book was created entirely from Lynette’s own scrapbook pages and ideas. It also includes card and gift ideas for missionaries.

 

Nine-year old Grace Dayton, of Pleasant Grove, won the Utah Old Time Fiddle Contest in the Small Fry Division. As a certified state champion, Grace is now eligible to compete at the National Contest.

 

Keith and Jody Renstrom are in their 28th year of running the Utah Valley Playhouse. The Orem couple are applauded for their commitment to providing wholesome family entertainment and their dedication to the arts.

 

Stan McQueen, of Orem, has just been named a member of the Freestyle Photographic Supplies Advisory Board of Photographic Professionals.

McQueen’s work has been shown in various museums and photographic venues throughout the West and Midwest, including the Utah Museum of Art.

His photography is showcased on page 74 of this issue of Utah Valley Magazine.

 

ERIN LEBARON is celebrating her health. Doctors are amazed she can function at such a high level due to the brain damage from a DPT shot. Erin earned a bachelor’s degree and gave birth to a healthy baby, although Erin has dealt with seizures her entire life.

Orem couple Dale and Margene Shumway just released “The Blossoming,” a book of dramatic accounts from the lives of Native Americans.

The book features fascinating life stories of 39 former students in the Indian Student Placement Program for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
