Just north of Utah Lake sits Saratoga Springs, a relatively new city that has attracted people with dreams of building it up and strengthening the community.  Find out what drew a couple of the popular businesses to the area and where to find the city’s namesake!

Dan and Emilee Harshberger fell in love on the dance floor and now love owning a dance-related business together in Saratoga Springs.

Dancing Duo

The most important thing to Dan Harshberger and his wife, Emilee, is being near family. That’s why when they decided to start their own company, they set up shop in Saratoga Springs.

They opened three companies in the same Saratoga Springs building in October 2008: Fire & Ice Dance Studio (named after the dance team they met on at UVSC), a tool rental center and a printing company. At Fire & Ice they offer basic dance, karate and Zumba classes, as well as Bushi Ban and Kindermusik.

Dance is the primary language of the Harshbergers. Dan and Emilee met in 2000 when they were dance partners and became engaged on stage at the end of a performance. The pair recently placed second in January at the United Country Western Dance Council World Championships in Nashville, taking home first in the waltz, two-step and cha-cha in open division III.

When Dan isn’t busy working at one of his three enterprises, you can find him country dancing with his wife or spending time with his family — the dancing duo has two children.

“You can dance in any city, but our family is here,” Dan says.

I’ll Drink to That

Cindy Provstgaard, who opened Coffee Creations seven years ago, could not have picked a better location, she says. She describes Saratoga Springs as the “cornerstone of the mountains.”

“It’s absolutely crazy out here,” Cindy says. “It really exploded.”

Cindy loves the summertime outdoor activities the area has to offer, like camping and boating. She enjoys being close to extended family and is impressed with the schools her three children have attended. And the food? She’s more than pleased with Saratoga’s dining selections.

“There is definitely some really great food in the area,” says Cindy, who loves to support local businesses since she, too, is a local business owner. Her favorite place to eat is Won Won Wok, which specializes in Japanese and Chinese food.

“Joe, the owner, is an amazing sushi chef,” Cindy praises. “And they know my voice when I call!”

Cindy also praises Café el Lago and, of course, Coffee Creations. Her employees create clever names for their favorite drinks, such as Italian Stallion, Snow on the Mountain and Mega Mocha Therapy. Cindy’s current favorite, a Kamikaze, is made with white chocolate, German chocolate and coconut.

Cindy describes Coffee Creations as “a lot like Starbucks, but so much better.” The welcoming store serves up coffee, frozen hot chocolate, fruit smoothies, breakfast pastries and 15 flavored syrups. A bookshelf with favorite titles is available to peruse while sipping.
