Hit the roof this summer with free band concerts on top of Provo Town Square.

If good music, good food and good times sound, well, good to you, head to downtown Provo for this summer’s Rooftop Concert Series.

Big-name bands play free shows on top of Provo Town Square’s parking terrace the first Friday of each month.

The series was started last summer by the Cultural Identity Committee, a group formed to amp up the atmosphere in downtown Provo. It’s a tall order, but the committee has ample help from restaurants and stores that make a night out on the (down)town pretty darn appealing. Not to mention this summer’s lineup of artists for the rooftop shows, including Neon Trees, Fictionist and committee member Mindy Gledhill herself.

“We have so many good venues in Provo, but none are really accessible to everyone,” says local blogger and committee organizer Courtney Kendrick. “The rooftop concerts help venues by showing off these bands to the public.”

Last summer’s biggest concert brought in about 1,000 spectators; this year promises to draw even more music-loving scenesters to the premises. Listeners are encouraged to bring a blanket, lawn chairs and takeout to make it a date night or a family bonding moment. Volunteers can help usher, do publicity or other roadie-worthy work.

All performances are free, family-friendly and begin at 8 p.m. The concert series runs now until October. For more information, go to
