MEREDITH GANT AND Jacob Hinton were friends for years before they became a couple.
They met at UVU where they were both recreation management majors. One night, Meredith went over to Jacob’s house to borrow some rock climbing rope. They started talking about how Jacob was on the Utah County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team — something the Orem girl had always dreamed about doing. She wanted to spend more time with Jacob to learn about joining the team. And Jacob wanted to spend more time with Meredith to make her his girlfriend. Spoiler alert! Both got what they were after.
Jacob knew they were meant for each other long before Meredith did.
“I liked how persistent he was,” she says.
After a few months of dating — and a few years of friendship — Jacob asked Meredith to marry him with a pink emerald ring at a park near the State Capitol building in Salt Lake City.
Much of Jacob and Meredith’s love story happened in the mountains — including their first kiss — so it was fitting that they were married in the mountains at Sundance Resort. Their June wedding was full of rustic details, from the aspen tree centerpieces to the tree trunk cake stands.
The beautiful wedding came together with the help of her family and friends. Meredith’s mom, who happens to be a professional seamstress, made Meredith a one-of-a-kind dress. Meredith’s brother, Cameron, is a chef at The Tree Room and was in charge of all things food at the wedding. Meredith’s brother, Aaron, officiated the wedding ceremony. And Meredith’s longtime family friend, McKenzie Deakins, was her photographer. Talk about a family affair!
The best part of the day? When Meredith and Jacob stole a quiet moment together on the Sundance chairlift before the reception started.
“It was so nice to get away from the stress while the family set up the reception,” Meredith says. “Overall it was a fun, relaxing day with friends.” uvbride
