BYU basketball player Eric Mika tweeted that he had officially submitted his LDS mission papers on Friday night.

The 6-foot-10 forward has been a huge contributing factor and primary big man for BYU’s basketball team this season averaging 13 points a game and 6.8 rebounds.

Mika is just one of the nationally ranked freshmen basketball players getting attention for their decision on whether they will serve a mission. Top ranked Duke forward Jabari Parker has received attention on his unique upcoming decision to continue playing for Duke, enter the NBA draft or serve a mission at the end of this season.

There is no official word on whether fellow BYU freshmen Luke Worthington or Graham Pingree will be submitting their mission papers soon, but Pingree’s player profile says he plans on serving a mission in May 2014. Freshman guard Frank Bartley IV is not LDS.

Out of the current members of the BYU basketball team, they have served LDS missions in Russia, Brazil, Philippines, Chile and the United States (Texas).
