Facebooktwittergoogle_pluspinterestmail

As part of our “Paint the Town” theme for this year’s Fab 40, we asked our featured folk a handful of paint-related questions for the magazine. Two questions that didn’t make it onto the glossy pages are ” Paint a picture of your perfect day” and “What is so boring it is like watching paint dry?”

Here is what they had to say:

Dayan Bernal

Dayan Bernal

Dayan Bernal, founder of Teens ACT

Picture of perfect day

“Any day filled with sunshine! Every day has the potential to be perfect because life is full of surprises. I never know where those unexpected surprises might take me.”

So boring it’s like watching paint dry

“Incredibly long movie dates.”

Maria Carr

Maria Carr

Maria Carr, actress, Latin community leader

Picture of perfect day

“I would spend the day at the beach with my family anywhere in the Caribbean.”

So boring it’s like watching paint dry

Lisa Valentine Clark

Lisa Valentine Clark, improv performer, actress

Picture of perfect day

“I would eat out for every meal, go on a long run outside in perfect weather, go to a movie with my family, meet my friends for dinner, perform some improv with my friends. My perfect day has a lot to do with good food and hanging out with my favorite people.”

So boring it’s like watching paint dry

“I hate listening to people describe their dreams. Not their goals and aspirations, but their actual night-time-you-were-asleep-this-didn’t-actually-happen dreams. I also have a hard time pretending to be interested when people describe funny or cute things their dog or cat did. I’m not an animal person, so I don’t get it.”

Jeremy Cottle

Jeremy Cottle

Jeremy Cottle, CEO of Provo Canyon Behavioral Hospital

Picture of perfect day

“Spending time at home with my beautiful wife and four children: Aubrie, Hunter, Austin and Hallie. We love to travel, fish, hike and hang out at home.”

So boring it’s like watching paint dry

“Pulling weeds!”

Chris Crabb

Chris Crabb

Chris Crabb, lead singer of We Are The Strike

Picture of  perfect day

“Wake up around 9, exercise, eat a hearty breakfast. Spend the afternoon reading a book or watching a movie, then take some time to write some music. After that I would meet up with friends for Mexican food, then I would go to sound check for a show. The band would rock really hard and then everyone would go out to eat afterwards and share some great laughs.”

So boring it’s like watching paint dry

“Anything administrative or technical with no creative component.”

Erika Dalton

Erika Dalton

So boring it’s like watching paint dry

“I’m a pretty patient guy so I don’t get bored often. In the rare occasion of down time, I think about new designs or improving/simplifying a project.”

Jessica Egbert

Jessica Egbert

Jessica Egbert, community leader in American Red Cross and Utah Valley Chamber of Commerce

Picture of perfect day

“While I love achieving goals and/or being lazy, my perfect day would be painted by the blues and greens of the ocean and the bright colors of the creatures within. The underwater world I’ve discovered through scuba diving is incomparable to life on land; and, it is even better that I get to experience it with my amazing hubby of nearly 15 years. (In addition, Dan is a pretty good-looking guy, so that never hurts.) I love oceans, mountains, deserts, or whatever God has painted … well, except snakes and mosquitos. He could’ve stopped before those got the final coat.”

So boring it’s like watching paint dry

Scott Hammond

Scott Hammond

Scott Hammond, Ph.D., business professor, search and rescue volunteer, author

Picture of perfect day

“Perfect days, like perfect moments, are never planned. In the jazz of life, they just happen when and if you put yourself in a position to grow, connect with others and notice what is going on in nature. Perfect moments and perfect days happen for me when I look up. Look up to see a sunset, a frosted mountain range, a friend or a loved one coming home.”

So boring it’s like watching paint dry

“Ballroom dance because it seems stiff and overdone to me. Also, celebrity news bores me because it bypasses the beautiful, relevant and creative work of a person and focuses on the irrelevant. I like ideas about improvement and making the world a better place. One quote I have always loved is from Conan O’Brien: ‘If you work really hard, and you are kind, amazing things will happen.'”

Shoe Nelson

Leialohona Pakalani

Leialohona Pakalani

Leialoha Pakalani, Major Gifts Director for BYU Law School

Picture of perfect day

“I used to imagine a perfect day would be device-free, worry-free and centered solely around MY relaxation, luxury shopping and gratification. That doesn’t hold the same appeal like it used to. The perfect day would be texturized with time to express without hesitation my gratitude for others. The perfect day would be filled with honest conversations over many meals because people remember feelings and food over facts.”
