In honor of International Women’s Day on Saturday, March 8, twin sisters Lindsay and Lexie Kite will host an afternoon workshop and offer the keynote address at Utah Valley University’s celebration on Friday, March 7.
The sisters, both of whom have Ph.D.s in the study of media and body image from the University of Utah, are co-founders of the Beauty Redefined Foundation. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to “(taking) back beauty for girls and women everywhere through continuing the discussion about body image, women’s potential and media influence.”
Armed with research on the relationship between body satisfaction and healthy choices, the Kites hope to slow (or even reverse) the health crises women face on both ends of the spectrum — from eating disorders to obesity — by encouraging them to reject the media’s unnatural beauty ideals and love and care for their bodies in constructive ways.
Workshop: Noon to 2 p.m. at Center Stage in the UVU Student Center
Keynote Address: 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the UVU Student Center
Free tickets are available at UVU’s Campus Connection or by contacting Marie Poudiougou at (801) 472-8769 or email@example.com.
