Weekend best bets (April 11-13)

It’s the weekend at last. Don’t get caught stuck on the couch when there are so many activities happening around Utah Valley. Here are five events sure to liven up your weekend:

1. Jenny Oaks Baker with the Timpanogos Symphony Orchestra

Revered violinist Jenny Oaks Baker will join with the Timpanogos Symphony Orchestra to premiere her new album, “Classic: The Rock Album.” This Friday-night performance at Thanksgiving Point will feature classic rock songs such as “Stairway to Heaven,” “Yesterday” and more. Tickets cost $18.

2. “Ballroom in Concert”

The 32nd annual BYU ballroom dance concert will brighten your evening with its theme, “Light Up the Night.” This nationally recognized ballroom team will perform “Fire and Ice” (a Latin medley) and “Disney Upon a Star” (a ballroom medley), which were the competition medleys that won them the 2013 British Formation Championships. The show is Friday and Saturday in the Marriott Center at 7:30 p.m.; there is a matinee on Saturday at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $16 for floor seats or $12 in the stands.

3. Spring Bijou Market

The sun is finally shining over Utah Valley announcing the true arrival of spring. With the change in season comes the annual Spring Bijou Market, which features 60 vendors, food trucks, live portrait artists sketching shoppers on site, a mini-flower market and a photo booth. The event runs on Friday (10 a.m. to 8 p.m.) and Saturday (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) at Southworth Hall, 116 West Center Street, in Provo.

4. “The Comedians”

If you love to laugh and you prefer your comedy clean, then you will love “The Comedians.” Vegas sensation, Jeff Civilico, is joined by the comical Shawn Rapier. The Covey Center presents a night of laughter Friday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $15-$20.

5. Brigham Larson Pianos: Sarah Sample

Bringing to life the sounds of Utah Valley, Brigham Larson Pianos hosts a weekly concert at their shop. This Friday, Sarah Sample will share her beautiful voice and folk music. Tickets cost $5 for children and $10 for adults.
