For most Americans, summer is a time to slow down and relax. But for Nancy Mann, assistant director of the Freedom Festival, summer time is go-time. Nancy is a driving force behind Utah Valley’s biggest summer events.
She assists festival director Paul Warner and serves as liaison between the festival board and the 28 events throughout the year — most of which are concentrated in the week of July 4.
Her tasks range from brainstorming Stadium of Fire talent to planning galas to managing up to 5,000 ticket requests.
But she wouldn’t lower the temperature on her busy summers.
“I have been at the Freedom Festival for two years and have loved every minute of it,” Nancy says. “Not too many people can head to work for the day and say they really enjoy what they do.”
Before her allegiance to the Freedom Festival, Nancy worked in a mortgage office and applied for the festival job at the suggestion of her daughter.
As a mother of 8, including two sets of twins, Nancy loves the values the Freedom Festival promotes: family, freedom, God and country.
“Utah County is such a family-oriented area and people in our valley love celebrating the 4th,” Nancy says. “People tell me over and over again that many of their family traditions are centered around attendance at our events. I love that.”
Nancy’s favorite Stadium of Fire performer? The Beach Boys.
“I don’t think people realized what a rare show it was at the time,” Nancy says. “It was one of their last concerts together.”
Nancy is excited for this year’s Stadium of Fire performers including Carrie Underwood, Studio C, JR Martinez and Laura Bush.
“It’s not often we get a First Lady here and we are hoping she brings her husband along for good luck!” Nancy says.
