Definition of healthy: Aubergine serves up delicious and nutritious

I am asked to “do lunch” so often that my next available lunch date is in October. So for someone like me who eats out a lot, having a place like Aubergine on South State Street in Orem is the perfect answer to delicious dining and good health. After my first dining experience at Aubergine, I noticed how I felt. I felt energized, not heavy and bloated. I felt that clean feeling you get from eating good food prepared with “best practices.” No fried food, just baked and grilled. No refined sugars, just fruit and natural sweeteners. No bad fats, just good ones. No counting calories, just focus on healthy ingredients.

I know all of this “healthy” talk may not excite you as much as a greasy hamburger and fries, but I challenge you to give healthy eating a try … Aubergine makes it doable.

   Step One: Choose a sandwich or salad.

   Step Two: Choose a protein (antibiotic free chicken, wild salmon, or falafel).

   Step Three: Choose a spread (I recommend the baba ghanoush — yum).

   Step Four: Add your choice of 12 toppings (I chose all of them).

   Step Five: Choose a homemade dressing (loved everyone of these).

Viola! The most scrumptious and amazingly delicious food also happens to be good for you.

If you venture to the salad section at Aubergine, they will hand-cut your greens and herbs right in front of you and assemble some of the most creative and irresistible salads I’ve seen. I devoured the homemade whole wheat pita, and they have lots of gluten-free offerings as well.

Aubergine offers an array of gourmet desserts, and my favorite is the Acai Bowl. They have seven different versions of the Acai Bowl, and I really like the classic “Brazilian.” Seriously, there is only one thing on the entire menu I wouldn’t order again (I wasn’t keen on the Chia Pudding.)

When you try Aubergine for your next dining experience, look around for me and say “hi.” I plan to be there frequently!
