The wait is almost over — Megaplex Theatres will be opening its new 13-theater complex in Vineyard on March 13.
“It will be among the first retail spaces up and running in the space,” said Jeff Whipple, vice president of advertising, marketing and public relations for Megaplex Corporate.
The theater complex will have the first digital IMAX screen in Utah County, and two Dolby Atmos auditoriums — the newest innovation in sound with significantly higher number of speakers in the room, Whipple said.
There will be D-Box Motion Seats that move in sync with movies, reserved stadium seating, a VIP luxury lounge and premium seating, drive-up and in-lobby ticketing kiosks. It also will have a food court featuring sandwiches, salads, burgers and more as well as the usual movie popcorn and treats, according to the complex’s website.
The company is giving away VIP tickets to the grand opening celebration on its Facebook page. To enter, just like, comment and share the contest post. As of Thursday afternoon, there were 994 likes, 710 comments and 816 shares on the post.
Construction on the theaters started shortly after the announcement in September 2013. It’s part of the @Geneva development — 1,750 acres purchased by Anderson Development in 2005 for $46.8 million — and the former site of Geneva Steel. The development is estimated to have space for 26,000 residents and will add about 20,000 new jobs to Utah County. Utah Valley University also has plans for a new campus on at least 100 acres of the development, 10 of which will be intramural fields.
