From the Point of the Mountain all the way down to Santaquin, Utah Valley has a lot to offer — especially in weekend activities. There are no excuses for staying in all weekend when there are these quality events happening around Utah Valley. Here are five of our picks for the upcoming weekend:
1. “The Secret Garden”
Come explore a magical garden with Acting Up, the SCERA’s high school company. Step in the life of 11-year-old orphan Mary Lennox as she makes a life with her uncle and invalid cousin. This musical shares a tale of forgiveness and imagination.
When: March 20–28
Where: SCERA
Cost: $6–$8
Site: scera.org
2. “Peter and the Wolf Live!”
Stories are shared by words, by music and by visuals — and the Utah Symphony uses them all to share Sergei Prokofiev’s classic composition, “Peter and the Wolf.” Using instruments to represent characters (such as the bassoon for grandfather and the string section of the orchestra for Peter), the symphony shares the story of Peter’s adventure. This will all be done while the Oscar-winning animated film “Peter & the Wolf” plays on the big screen behind the orchestra.
When: Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Where: Covey Center for the Arts, Provo
Tickets: $8-$18
Site: coveycenter.org
3. March Puppet Show: BYU Young Company’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”
Like you’ve never seen it before, the BYU Young Company is sharing a Shakespeare classic that even your young ones can enjoy. The troupe has handmade marionettes and has cut this play down to just 50 minutes, making it easier for everyone to gain exposure to one of Shakespeare’s popular comedies.
When: Saturday, March 21 at 11 a.m.
Where: SCERA
Cost: $3 (Ages 3 and older)
Site: scera.org
4. Filmed in Utah Awards
Ready, set, action! The 4th annual Filmed in Utah Awards are ready to shine this Saturday. This show is sold out, but they are working to broadcast it. Plus, you can see all of your Utah film stars outside of the Covey Center.
