This is one of 10 lists on direct sales featured in the Spring 2015 issue of Utah Valley BusinessQ.
Can we be direct? Network marketing is here to stay.
It’s a popular topic around these parts, where downlines are the uptalk. In fact, Utah County has the highest concentration of direct sales companies in the nation, which gives our county a big piece of the $32 billion pie this industry creates in the United States.
Here are five reasons direct sales are so popular in Utah Valley.
1. Mad skills
We’ve got skills — foreign skills. The large LDS returned missionary population lends itself to multilingual employees (aka increased international influence).
2. We’re flexible
Network marketing offers unlimited income potential and flexible work hours, both of which are priorities for large families so prevalent in Utah County.
3. It’s in the nickname
Customer service is another pillar of direct sales — and “Happy Valley” is the place to get it.
4. Power of the people
“We believe in the power of people here. No matter the technology that comes along, there is no replacement for a passionate person with a diverse network,” says Ryan Palmer of Zija.
5. The Mormon factor
In a word? Self-sufficiency. The Mormon factor — and its cousin self-reliance — come into play.
