We asked four local men what’s hot and what’s not when it comes to fashion. Whether you are man’s man or a man about town, listen up, take notes and analyze your own closet and shoe collection.

What do you wear on a typical day? I was raised on a sheep ranch and never wore anything but cowboy boots and jeans until I was 17. Now, I dress up as much as I can. I like colorful dress shirts, patterned ties, slacks or a suit.

How many suits do you own? Four tailored and one handmade.

Facial hair — love it or leave it? I’m Greek and can’t grow any. It has something to do with the olive oil in our veins.

How many pairs of shoes do you own? Probably close to 20 pairs, but not one pair of boots. My favorites are saddle shoes with two-tone color; they remind me of something my grandfather might have worn.

Favorite local clothing stores? Nordstrom Rack, Ream’s Western Store, Cal Ranch, Tabitha’s Way and Jos. A. Bank. For those who are bit regal in size or tall there is wonderful place to shop called Destination XL.

What hideous clothing item do you own that you just can’t throw away? I have a corduroy blazer that might double for Joseph’s technicolor dreamcoat. I’ve only had it for a year. If I am ever headed to church with my parents they will always specify to please not wear “the clown costume.” But I love the shock value.

Favorite trends in men’s fashion? All the mixing and matching of colors, styles and patterns. And I love that bow ties are back!

What do you wear on a typical day? Because I am self-employed and I work in an office where I don’t see people,  I get to wear what I want. In the winter I wear jeans and a zip-up hoody. In the summer I wear shorts, flip flops and a T-shirt.

Do suits suit you? No, after my LDS mission I vowed to only wear a suit to funerals and my own wedding. So far, I have only worn one at my wedding.

Favorite tie?A basic black slim tie.

Facial hair — love it or leave it? I just shaved a foot off my beard a couple months ago, so I guess I am going to say leave it.

How many pairs of shoes do you own? Probably 30+. My favorites are red Sauconys.

What hideous clothing item do you own that you just can’t throw away? A leather jacket I got at Gap almost 15 years ago. I haven’t thrown it away because it cost me so much money back then. One day it will come back in style, right?

What look do you wish would go away? Super skinny jeans on dudes.

Favorite trends in women’s fashion? Leggings and a loose fitting shirt.

Funky socks — love ’em or leave ’em? Love ’em.

What do you wear on a typical day? Skinny fitted jeans, usually black, with a buttoned shirt and a leather jacket. For shoes, it’s either boots or black high top sneakers. If I want to dress it up, I grab a blazer.

What was your style in high school? Preppy punk. We used to roll up our sleeves and peg our jeans. If we wanted our hair blonde, we used Sun-In. It was a hideous orange — glad that’s gone!

How many suits do you own? I have several Saint Laurent and Dior. They are all black, fitted and tailored.

Facial hair — love it or leave it? I can’t grow a beard so it’s not for me — too patchy. But I think a 5 o’clock shadow looks good on others.

How many pairs of shoes do you own? More than 50.

Favorite clothing brands? Saint Laurent, Dior, Tom Ford, AllSaints, Alexander McQueen, Rick Owens.

Favorite trends in men’s fashion right now? I like that we are moving into more tailoring and instead of loose, bulky clothing. I find that music drives fashion more than any other influence.

Favorite trends in women’s fashion? More androgynous apparel; men’s clothing on women — but tailored to a women’s shape.

Funky socks — love ’em or leave ’em? Leave them. It’s trying too hard.

What do you wear on a typical day? I’m usually dressed down in a polo, jeans and casual shoes.

What was your style 10 years ago?

My style was half preppy/half athletic wear. I wore the typical cargo pants with the Abercrombie & Fitch polos most of the time. Or sweats.

Do you have more than one suit? Off the rack or tailored? Yes, and they are all tailored.

Facial hair — love it or leave it? Facial hair all day everyday!

How many pairs of shoes do you own? I have about 10 pairs of shoes (3 dressy, 4 athletic shoes, and 3 casual). My favorite pair is none of them. I’ll take a comfy pair of socks around the house any day.

Favorite clothing brands? I’m currently a fan of H&M, but it changes. I also really like Hylete’s performance apparel .

Favorite trends in men’s fashion? I really like the “lumbersexual” GQ look that’s pretty popular right now. No arm tattoos for me, though!

What look do you wish would go away? Skinny jeans on men.

Funky socks — love ’em or leave  ’em? Love ’em.
