Spanish Fork police arrested a man Thursday morning after a standoff that lasted a few hours. Someone had called 911 earlier to report that the man was drunk and throwing things, then later that he left the house with a gun, according to police. When police arrived they reportedly heard a gunshot come from a shed, and the man locked himself inside. He eventually surrendered and was arrested.
Guilty plea in rape case
A man from Saudi Arabia on Tuesday pleaded guilty to raping a woman in Orem in February. Monsour Alshammari, 28, will spend one year in the Utah County Jail, with credit for the 89 days he’s already served in jail. He’ll serve three years of probation and must comply with probation terms unless he’s deported to Saudi Arabia after he finishes his jail sentence. Alshammari was arrested earlier this year while trying to cross the border into Mexico.
Police in Washington say a body found in a duffel bag was a Payson woman. Jenna Ferguson, 23, was in Washington for a rehab program. She left the program about a month ago and hadn’t been seen since, police say.
Police in Alpine are looking for the person responsible for vandalizing climbing equipment at Creekside Park. The damage is estimated at $2,500. Anyone with information about the vandalism can call (801) 756-9800.
$10K added to reward
A private donor has added $10,000 to a reward for information leading to Elizabeth Elena Laguna Salgado, who’s been missing since April 16.
Salgado, 26, was last seen walking home from her school, Nomen Global Language School in Provo, at around 2 p.m. that day. Her cell phone hasn’t been used, she hasn’t logged into social media accounts and there’s been no activity on her financial accounts since she was last seen. Now there’s a $25,000 reward for information leading to her whereabouts.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Provo Police Department at (801) 852-6210.
