Weekend best bets: A musical heavy weekend in Utah Valley

From the Point of the Mountain all the way down to Santaquin, Utah Valley has a lot to offer — especially in weekend activities. There are no excuses for staying in all weekend when there are these quality events happening around Utah Valley. Here are five of our picks for the upcoming weekend:

Movie in the park: “Tangled”

At last you can see the light of the TV screen in the night with Lindon city’s monthly movie in the park. Let your stress float away with Rapunzel and Flynn Rider and a bunch of animated floating lanterns. Don’t forget blankets to sit on and bug spray.

“Peter Pan”

How do you get to Neverland? You go to the Hale Center Theater Orem’s production of “Peter Pan,” of course. Join the Lost Boys along with Captain Hook and his pirate crew in a Neverland adventure. Who says you ever have to grow up?

When: June 16–Aug. 6 at 7:30 p.m. with Saturday matinee at 3 p.m.

“Footloose: The Musical”

“If you need a hero” and are looking to cut loose, then the SCERA’s cast of “Footloose” wants you to join their dance. Join Ren and Ariel in their rebellious fight against the town law prohibiting dancing. Read a preview of the show here.

Harry Potter Yule Ball (for teens)

If you have a teen in your family, they have as good as received their Hogwarts letter. This magical evening escapes the muggle world with a visit from DJ Severus Snape, a trip to Olivander’s Wand Shop, sweets from Honeydukes and more Harry Potter adventures. Attendees are encouraged to come dressed in costume or formal attire.

When: July 15 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

“Alice in Wonderland Jr.”

Take a trip down the rabbit’s hole with this youth version of “Alice in Wonderland.” The Queen of Hearts, Cheshire Cat and Wonderland’s many unique characters are waiting to take Alice and you on an unforgettable trip. Don’t tweedle dee nor tweedle dum your thumbs or else you will miss this production made up of actors all under the age of 18.

When: July 11–22 at 2 p.m.

Cost: $7–$9 for adults; $5–$7 for children
