With almost perfect temperatures, lots of kids and low crime rates, Orem is ranked as the No. 2 spot in the country for trick-or-treating this year.

“I think Orem’s a great place to trick-or-treat,” said Pete Wolfley, an Orem spokesman. “Parents can count on safe streets that are well-lit, the weather in October is generally pretty tolerable and there are lots of great family homes to visit. And people are generous with treats.”

The website SmartAsset agreed, making Orem the only city in the state in its top 25 trick-or-treating destinations. SmartAsset, which is a financial technology company, ranked Orem No. 3 last year.

The website considered seven factors when evaluating 252 cities around the country: single-family housing density, population 14 and younger, violent crime rate, property crime rate, median home value, average temperature and chance of precipitation.

“Weather can potentially make or break a Halloween party. And cold temperatures may prevent kids from visiting all the homes in their neighborhoods. Fortunately, the average high temperature in Orem on October 31 is just 0.5 degrees away 60 degrees, which we believe is the ideal Halloween temperature,” SmartAsset wrote about the city.
