City: American Fork
Casting call Janeen has been with Giant Steps Autism Preschool since it started in 1997 and is now the program supervisor. Some of her students are high school graduates in college or creating a career.
The show must go on “When I first decided I wanted to move from administrative assistant to autism specialist/teacher, I had to go back to school to get my special education endorsement. I balanced working full-time, taking evening classes and assisting my husband in raising three elementary-age children.”
Behind-the-scenes “I met my husband of 30 years at Classic Fun Center (he was a security guard). I made him chocolate chip cookies to get him to ask me out. Four of my siblings also met their spouses at Classic Fun Center.”
No place like home “My favorite burger place is JCW’s. They have some of the best burgers around! I think I go there almost once a month.”
Costume change “I participate with Rinceoiri Don Spraoi Irish Dancers. This is a nonprofit group that performs for various events in the community. The name of the group means ‘Dancing for Fun.’ We practice weekly and perform at various functions around the state. I am also a member of the Wasatch Winds Symphonic Band. This is a community band based in American Fork that started in 2006. I play the clarinet and have been participating for most of the last 10 years.”
