2017 Fab 40: Rachel Farnsworth

Age: 31
City: Lehi

Casting call Rachel cooks up success with her blog and YouTube channel, The Stay At Home Chef, where she shares restaurant-quality recipes. When a commenter said gray hair made her look like an “old hag,” Rachel responded with a video message. Because of a rare autoimmune disease, Rachel may not live to be 70. “Every sign of aging is a sign I’m still alive. A lot of people don’t get the privilege to be old,” she said in the video, which garnered national media coverage and more than 14 million views.

Break-a-leg advice “Reaching for the stars and achieving dreams takes nothing more than sheer determination.”

No place like home “There used to be an old barn in the Cherry Hill orchard area of Orem. It was the most romantic spot in Utah Valley. My husband proposed to me there. It’s gone now, but I have a soft spot in my heart for the beautiful orchards left in the valley.”

Dress rehearsal “I left a movie theater with a huge grease stain from having the popcorn sit on my lap. I was trying to find the bathroom and several of the teenage employees had a hard time stifling their laughter as they pointed me in the right direction. When I looked into the mirror in the bathroom, I saw exactly what they were laughing about. It looked like I had peed my pants!”

Costume change “I love to read and write. Give me a good book and I’ll be lost in another universe for a few hours.”
