2017 Fab 40: Stephen Mongie

Casting call Every Thanksgiving, Stephen reflects on the 1991 evening he arrived at a nearly-empty JFK. “Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because I am so grateful to be in this country.” After converting to the LDS Church, Stephen received his education at BYU and now is a father of six and the principal/founder of the financial strategy firm, Links Consulting.

The show must go on “In order to get a student visa I needed a financial sponsor. My boss from Scotland was a wealthy man so I asked him and he said, ‘I’ll be your financial sponsor, but I won’t give you any money.’ So I would work until midnight, study, and then get up at 5 a.m. every day.”

Break-a-leg advice “This country is filled with so much good, but I turn on the television and I see so much negativity. Do they not see what I see? I see beautiful mountains and wonderful people. Be grateful and be positive.”

Costume change Stephen loves to surf, sailboat race and golf.

Encore On Stephen’s first day at the MTC, he pulled his friend’s old Buick Skylark into the parking lot, squeaking the tires as he turned and saw a beautiful girl. “I thought I would never see her again but I walked into my orientation class and she was there. The rest is history. What makes me fabulous? Denise.”
