Summer is finally here and there is no turning back. We’ve tackled spring’s rain (and snow) showers, but now we are ready for nothing but fun in the sun. Utah Valley pulls out all the stops to create a fun summer full of events — whether its a musical performance, sporting event or a random affair — and you shouldn’t miss it. Here are five weekend best bets to fill your summer nights.

“Hairspray”

The SCERA Shell is taking us back to the 1960s with Tracy Turnblad and all those on “The Corny Collins Show.” Come experience a classic tale of a teen turned celebrity who falls in love and dances the night away in Baltimore. Try your best to not get up and sing with the cast during “Good Morning Baltimore,” “You Can’t Stop The Beat” and “Mama I’m A Big Girl Now.” Hairspray is directed by Jan Shelton Hunsaker and the music direction and choreography is by Tiffany Winkel Nutter.

When: June 9-24 at 8 p.m.
Where: SCERA Shell
Cost: $12 for adult; $10 for children and seniors

Strawberry Days and Rodeo

Giddy up for Utah’s longest running celebration. This year’s Strawberry Days’ theme is “Home of the free…because of the brave.” The celebration will feature a rodeo, carnival, craft fair, parade and, of course, those big red strawberries.

When: June 10-18 at 7 p.m.
Where: Rodeo Grounds, 200 South State Road
Cost: Varies by event

Hidden Garden Tour

It is time to once again discover the gorgeous private gardens lining the Wasatch Front. The 21st annual event is hosted by Utah State University Extension and Utah County Master Gardeners. Participants will be inspired by gardens all the way from North Orem to Highland.

When: June 9 from 12–6 p.m. and June 10 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Where: Various locations in Utah County
Cost: $15 in advance, $18 at the door

Dairy Day

Farm Country is ready celebrate all things dairy with you. Thanksgiving Point will be hosting Dairy Day where participants can come learn how to make homemade butter, ride a cow train and participate in a variety of activities. There will even be calves brought in by the Dairy Council of Utah/Nevada.

When: June 10 from 10-4 p.m.
Where: Thanksgiving Point Farm Country, 3003 N. Thanksgiving Way
Cost: Free for Thanksgiving Point Members and included with venue admission

Street Fair on Main

Spanish Fork’s street fair will be killing it this year with artisans, crafters and small businesses lining Main Street. You’ll be walking away with pockets full of homemade goodies and products from great local businesses. Take it slow this Saturday, and stroll around the street fair.
