Utah County better start warming up because “American Idol” auditions are coming to Provo on Aug. 23.
On May 9, “American Idol” announced it will make a comeback and return for its 16th season. In 2015, the Fox TV show announced its final season before being cancelled after 15 seasons, but earlier this year it announced the show would make a revival and partner with ABC.
The Idol auditions will begin Thursday, Aug. 17, in Orlando, Florida. Eighteen other cities will also host auditions, including Oakland, Denver, Boston and, of course, Provo.
Utah is no stranger to “American Idol.” Many contestants from the state have appeared on the show, and some have even made it big. A few of those Utah-famous names include David Archuleta, Kenzie Hall, Jenn Blosil and James Gray Dawson VII.
Katy Perry will be joining the judges panel this year, but the show has not yet released who the host and other judges will be.
Contestants must be 15 years or older to audition. The location for auditions in Provo has not been announced, but those anxious to get started can submit a video audition at abc.go.com/shows/american-idol/auditions. Contestants may audition in person, online or both.
