The Journey If it feels like 2018 is the year of Bill Hulterstrom, you are correct. Bill is being named Pillar of the Valley by the Utah Valley Chamber of Commerce on March 29. After 32 years as president and CEO of the United Way of Utah County, Bill is being pulled out from his favorite position: behind the scenes. “It’s been emotional to get recognized for the good things our community is doing,” Bill says. This father of two is more comfortable in Disney settings — he’s been to Disneyland at least 120 times and Disney World more than 50 times.
Mile Markers “When I started at United Way 33 years ago, we had a staff of 3.5. Now we are up to 75. When I got here, we didn’t have a center for women and children in crisis. We didn’t have a volunteer care clinic. We didn’t have a major food bank in the community. I’ve been along for the ride as these things have happened.”
Travel destinations “I love traveling literally and metaphorically. I’ve been to all 50 states and spoken in 34. In my office, you’ll find Mickey Mouse in one corner and a Delta flight simulator on the other side. Disney can teach us so much about how to treat people and logistically pull things off. I learn something on every trip — even though I only went to Disney World seven times last year!”
