Orem

The Journey Not many people claim the same hometown for 84 years but Richard — also known as ‘Orem’s milkman,’ — can proudly say just that. Richard has been a part of the Boy Scout program for 45 years. As the District Commissioner and District Chairman, he has recognized adults with the District Award of Merit, the Silver Beaver, and the District Rock of Squaw Peak.

Mile Markers “Serving three LDS Church missions with my companion stands out to me. As a young man, I was not able to serve a mission because of the Korean War.”

Memories  “I remember many fruit farms in the county, the building of the SCERA Theater and Geneva Steel. I remember when all of Orem and the north part of Provo was one LDS stake that had 10 wards. I have fond memories of many stake athletic events.”

Local Destinations “I enjoy visiting each city’s cemetery because they are so well kept, and it gives me time to think about the life purposes of all the people who are buried there, their many sacrifices, challenges, and what they are doing now. This is meaningful to me because I have spent my whole life doing family history and have found 3,000 names for LDS temple work.”
