Even though her audition wasn’t aired on TV, 16-year-old Cesley Parrish of Highland “wowed” the judges and made it to Hollywood Week on ABC’s “American Idol.”

Parrish’s unique rendition of “You Are My Sunshine” at her audition in New Orleans blew judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie away, resulting in her receiving a golden ticket to go to Hollywood.

“I was really shocked,” Parrish says. “I didn’t think I’d make it because they wanted to hear more range and power. In the end, all three judges said yes. I was in shock. My whole family came running in and hugged me.”

“American Idol” rolled into Provo, Utah in August to hold first round auditions, where singers audition in front of producers instead of the celebrity judges.

Tune in to ABC’s “American Idol” Monday night, March 26 at 6 p.m. MST. Watch over 100 other finalists compete to avoid elimination and cheer on our own Utah Valley “idol.”

Check UtahValley360.com on Tuesday, March 27 for a feature story on Parrish’s performance.
