Lisa Young grew up watching her father serve as the chair of the Strawberry Days Association. Her family’s devotion to serving others sparked her interest in giving back to the community. At a young age, Lisa started advising the Youth Court/Council that helped with the Strawberry Days Parade. Almost 25 years later, Lisa continues her family’s legacy by serving as the chair of the Strawberry Days Association.
“My favorite part is going to every event and helping the talented chairs create success,” Lisa says. “I’ve been married for 30 years with five kids. Their support allows me to volunteer, and now they all serve like I do.”
Strawberry Days is the longest continuous celebration in the state. Through hard work, dedication and a few jokes, Lisa coordinates the parade, concert in the park, boutiques and overseeing the entire operation of Strawberry Days.
“I love delivering a cup of free strawberries and cream to a senior citizen who is enjoying the free concert in the park,” she says. “I love sitting at tables topping strawberries with the other volunteers or picking garbage after the parade. I love helping get ready for the rodeo and concessions. I love it all.”
When she’s not looking for the next person to give free strawberries and cream to, Lisa is repping her favorite sports team at Pleasant Grove High School. As the front secretary and wrestling enthusiast, Lisa loves to cheer on the Vikings.
“I ask myself every night, did I give more than I received,” Lisa says. “I’m very blessed, so it’s hard to give more than I have received, but I try every day. I hope to teach the next generation to be a part of a positive solution, not a negative problem.”
