Smart Thinking Kim Wittman is a people person. As the director of HR for the smart home giant Vivint, Wittman has transformed both their humans and their resources. Since joining Vivint in 2013, Wittman has established the company’s college recruiting and internship program, led corporate talent acquisition, and now oversees HR for over a thousand employees across the company’s innovation, IT, internet, finance and supply chain divisions. She has also helped build the foundation for the company to scale rapidly by expanding the Vivint Innovation Center — in just four years, they went from one floor of technical talent to five floors of hardware and software engineers, data scientists, designers and more.

Childhood Vision “Marine biologist”

Growing Up “I was the oldest of four, so I was a little bossy.”

School of Thought “I wasn’t the smartest kid in class, but I was a good student — hard-working, curious and always interested in leadership.”

Eye On The Prize “I’m a true believer in the importance of STEM education, so I’ve enjoyed spearheading Vivint Smart Home’s involvement with programs such as KidsCode, Girls Go Digital, SheTech and the Women Tech Council. For me, it really comes down to community impact.”

Hindsight is 20/20 “I would believe in myself earlier on in my career. As a young professional, I questioned myself and overcomplicated things.”

Clearing The Mind “I try to get each day off to a good start by working out, sometimes as early as 4:30 a.m.”

Out Of Sight! “I once kayaked with humpback whales. It was exhilarating in the moment, and afterward, the reality sunk in of just how small humans are compared to nature.”

Ultimate Vision“I want to build the kind of teams where people say, ‘Wow! I’ve never worked with a better, smarter group of people.’”
