Provo dancer called ‘poster child’ of ‘So You Think You Can Dance,’ advances to Top 6

Provo dancer Jensen Arnold is on a roll on Season 15 of “So You Think You Can Dance.”

After being called one-half of the “strongest dance couple on the show this year” by judge Nigel Lythgoe last week, Arnold received another complimentary title from Lythgoe Monday night — the “poster child of ‘So You Think You Can Dance.’”

… “Whatever they throw at you you do brilliantly, and I’ve got to say you are the poster child of ‘So You Think You Can Dance.’ It’s everything you could ever want,” Lythgoe told Arnold, who advanced to the Top 6 on the dance competition show Monday night.

Each competitor performed five dances: two with their partners, one group routine, one with all the same-gender dancers and one solo performance.

Arnold and her partner Jay Jay Dixonbey received praise following their Jazz routine in which the couple hid a wardrobe malfunction.

“The skirt came off a little early,” Arnold explained to the judges following the performance. “I had to take my skirt off when I was supposed to take his jacket off. But we made it work.”

Lythgoe said he didn’t notice the mishap, and the other judges loved the performance.

“We were just talking about how less is more, and man oh man, you guys hit it just right,” said judge Mary Murphy. “The song alone was super sexy, and really I was worried about that. Was this not going to be PG? But you guys are PDG: pretty damn good dancers.”

Guest judge Twitch only had positive things to say to the couple about the routine to “I Got You (I Feel Good)” by Jessie J.

“So far I don’t know what this couple cannot do. Y’all are incredible,” Twitch said. “I’ve got nothing but praises for that. That was hot, that was steamy. Of course you’ve got the situations that happen, but look at the overall performance.”

The duo also performed a hip-hop routine to “Cookin” by Fat Joe, Remy Ma and French Montana that features RySoValid.

At the end of the night, two contestants — a male and female — were eliminated. Through audience votes from the previous week and a final decision by the judges, Magda Fialek and Cole Mills were eliminated from the show.

Season 15 of “SYTYCD” continues on Monday, Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. Two more competitors will be eliminated on next week’s show.
