Weekend best bets: 5 Utah Valley weekend events

Here come the holidays. Utah Valley has a variety of weekend events as the county prepares for the holly, jolly season. Don’t let sweater weather keep you indoors this week, especially with these events going on around town.

Lighting of Riverwoods

Calling all Christmas tree and country fans! This year marks the 20th anniversary for the Lighting of the Riverwoods at the Shops at Riverwoods in Provo. This year, the free event is themed “Country Christmas,” so several local country artists and dancers will perform a free concert. Santa Claus will also make his debut at the Riverwoods that night. And to all a good night with a holiday fireworks show at 9 p.m.

Barlow Arts: “The Nutcracker”

Get an early taste of Christmas this year with “The Nutcracker.” Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s music is always en pointe as Utah Valley revisits the classic story of Clara and the Nutcracker. Join them in dreaming as the Sugar Plum Fairy comes to life.

When: Nov. 13–17 at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. (Saturday at 2 p.m.)

The Blizzard 5K

You’ll want to deck yourself with warm running clothes to participate in Vineyard’s first ever Blizzard 5K. The race starts at 9 a.m. with the kids 1/2 mile beginning at 10 a.m. As an added incentive to pound the pavement, race officials are awarding all participants Dairy Queen Blizzard vouchers.

When: Nov. 17 at 9 a.m.

$15 to participate in 5K or $25 with a T-shirt; $5 for kids 1/2 mile or $15 with a shirt

Bijou Market

Say bijou to local shopping this weekend. With over 60 local vendors and food trucks, the Bijou Market will have some new handmade item that will tickle your fancy. Bijou Market announces their vendors on Instagram.

“Much Ado About Nothing”

As a military war comes to a close, another war is just beginning — the battle of love. Laugh at Shakespeare’s popular comedy as Beatrice and Benedick and Hero and Claudio navigate the battlefield of love, jealousy and misunderstandings.
