Foodies are converting to an all-day pancake and steakhouse in the heart of Orem

At my house one of our favorite things to have for dinner is BREAKFAST! So it doesn’t strike me as strange that a restaurant focuses 90 percent of their menu on the fabulous foods of breakfast.

   TRUreligion opened its pancake and steakhouse just a few months ago and already has a big following of those who love breakfast any time of the day, delicious comfort food, and an affordable value. I really can’t believe how low the prices are for such a modern, clean restaurant.

   TRUreligion is located in Orem’s dining hot spot on South State Street next to Pizzeria 712 and Asada.  I like to see good restaurants group together so if one is busy, I can slip in the one next door.

   As I try to limit my carbs, I chose the evening’s special of a New York Strip steak with two sunny side up eggs, hash browns, and the family recipe biscuit with local honey and butter. Yum!

   The steak was nicely aged in-house and served with maitre d’ compound butter, which is all a good steak needs. It also comes with mushroom sauce on the side but I didn’t use it as the steak stood on its own. I can tell the skill of a chef at the grill when I order a medium rare steak and two sunny side up eggs. You can’t pull the wool over my eyes with those two items!

   The eggs were perfect. YAY!  The steak was probably medium rare plus, so if you truly want medium rare, you may want to be super specific with your waiter. I had just a bite of the hash browns (carbs!), which needed to be more crispy for my tastes. The biscuit was huge so I just ate half, but big eaters will appreciate the size of their portions.

   The chicken fried steak with sausage gravy was super tasty, but once again needed to be crispier for me. My date’s eggs were a perfect over easy, and he loved the grilled Texas toast. Other top notch choices include the Cattleman’s steak (never have this more than medium as it is a sirloin), the Green Pork Supreme created by the matriarch and sure to please, and any house-made crepes. The menu has kids choices and is a great place for families.

   Beyond the food are a few items of note that will endear this place to our community.  The owners were proud to tell me about their “second chance” program where they provide employment for those needing someone to believe in them.  At Culinary Crafts we do this a lot, and it is a true joy to give others a second chance.  The owners of TRUreligion are three generations of restaurateurs and have found a great spot to feature their commitment to local quality ingredients and a white-glove clean kitchen with even glass doors on their refrigerators so all can see their fresh and clean approach.

   I think you get the idea … I like these guys! Two thumbs up for TRUreligion. We open our arms to this restaurant with a soul.
