Dr. Greg Pitts knows that getting “smacked in the mouth” is sometimes a part of playing sports. In fact, during his football playing days at BYU, he saw how much a good mouthpiece means to an athlete. That’s why he works hard to protect the mouths of athletes around the valley — including supplying mouthpieces for the BYU football team.
“Besides protecting teeth, a custom-fit mouthpiece can limit concussions,” Dr. Pitts says. “Athletes of all levels need this added protection, and we work with athletes to get a proper fit.”
In addition to his work with sports dentistry, Dr. Pitts has been practicing cosmetic restorative dentistry along with traditional family dentistry.
At the heart of cosmetic restorative dentistry is a desire to make a patient’s smile look like no work has been done. Dr. Pitts works hard to develop a dental plan with the patient to ensure the end result is just right. The process may include Invisalign wireless orthodontics, fillings and dental implants.
In all aspects of his practice, Dr. Pitts’ philosophy is to treat everyone like family.
“I talk to patients like they’re my mom, brother or friend. Sometimes when I make recommendations, I think, ‘If you were my mother, how would I treat you?’ or ‘If you were my daughter, how would I go about fixing this problem?’” Dr. Pitts says.
Dr. Pitts is originally from Provo and before attending dental school at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, he earned a bachelor’s degree from BYU. He’s a true Utahn and on any given day, he can be found skiing in waist-deep powder, riding the Porcupine Rim Trail in Moab on his mountain bike or cruising a scenic byway on his Harley-Davidson.
Dr. Pitts is celebrating his 20th year of practicing dentistry in Utah Valley and looks forward to being part of the community for many more.
