Reading the Book of Mormon and Preach My Gospel would have to be on anyone’s list of top things to do to prepare for a mission. But there is another thing that might not be on everyone’s list, but it is certainly on ours. Work at an unglamorous job for a substantial period of time. Missionary work is often just that — work. A full- or part-time job teaches how to stay at a task for hours — without a ton of excitement. Those who hold these jobs and do it with a smile seem to best weather the challenges of serving a mission. They are also the ones most likely to rise up, have great success and find the true joy that comes in preaching the gospel.
