By Paige Holland. She and her husband, Matt, are the presidents of the North Carolina Raleigh Mission. From 2009-2018, they were at UVU where Matt was the sixth president. They will serve as mission presidents until summer 2021.
Reading the Book of Mormon and Preach My Gospel would have to be on anyone’s list of top things to do to prepare for a mission. But there is another thing that might not be on everyone’s list, but it is certainly on ours. Work at an unglamorous job for a substantial period of time. Missionary work is often just that — work. A full- or part-time job teaches how to stay at a task for hours — without a ton of excitement. Those who hold these jobs and do it with a smile seem to best weather the challenges of serving a mission. They are also the ones most likely to rise up, have great success and find the true joy that comes in preaching the gospel.
