Christy Tribe, Junior Achievement President

Age 59 • Salt Lake City • Pisces

About 16 years ago, Junior Achievement of Utah hired Christy as a program manager. Now she’s the CEO and president. (Between the two titles, she’s also filled every role at the Salt Lake-based organization.) JA aims to help students K-12 connect their classroom learning with their future through programs like JA BizTown, a full-day simulation of the “real world” for fifth graders. In May 2019, JA announced they will open a JA BizTown location at University Place in Orem. Christy also has a love for interior design, politics, jazz, tennis, and giving advice.

Shoot for the Stars “We are working steadily toward our goal to open up a location in Utah County. Because of our long waiting list, we’re currently only reaching a third of all fifth graders in the state. With our Utah County location, we will be able to reach two-thirds of the state.”

Starry-Eyed “I get to work among brilliant people all the time. My mentors are amazing, and I want kids to have that same experience. I get starstruck by someone who doesn’t know how amazing they are.”

A Star is Born “My mother was a single mom and we didn’t have a lot. She believed in me. She knew I could make it. Working hard made me resourceful. When I come up with a problem now I think, ‘I’ve got this! I’ve done harder things before!’”

Lucky Star “I feel lucky I walked into Junior Achievement for an interview. That day has changed the course of my life.”
