The year 2020 showed us just how much we depend on people like Susan Evans. As a registered nurse for more than 30 years, Susan is one of the most recognizable faces in the community. And she loved her patients as much as they adored her. “I loved my career as an RN and the opportunity it gave me to know, love and serve the people in my community,” she says. Now retired, Susan fondly remembers her college days where, at the age of 41, she was the oldest member of her graduating class. This drive and passion to become a nurse drove her to offer the best care for her patients. Susan’s example has paved the way for other nurses in Utah Valley. Five of her six children and (so far) four of her 28 grandchildren have also chosen the same profession as their mother and beloved grandmother.

Carnival Craving “Cotton candy, of course.”

Rickety Ride “My husband lost his arm in a terrible accident many years ago. We have had to learn to readjust most things we do in our lives. We’ve also had to learn how to help others know that we are OK.”

Theme Park “My theme park would be ‘Grandma Sue’s Land of Adventures on Golden Pond.’ I love being known as Grandma Sue, and I find a lot of joy in sharing my life on our beautiful pond with all my family and friends. We’ve had plenty of adventures, and I love planning games and reunions for my kids and grandkids.

Sweet Suggestions “Have courage and be kind, with a little bit of magic.”

Gem of the Utah Valley Jamboree “I like to drive the country roads, watch the crops grow and admire the farms, barns, cattle and horses.”

Grand Prize “Chocolate.”

Clowning Around “I love genealogy. I learn the stories of my ancestors and share them with my family. I also love to read, and I enjoy long car rides.”
