Matt Moody is a whole mood: fun, hardworking, sporty, diligent, caring, connected, cool. At just 14, he started working for the family business in the automotive industry, where he learned every aspect of running a dealership from mechanics to car auctions. With a nudge and support from his uncle, he started his own dealership and off-road company in his mid-20s. The off-road company — Triad Off-Road — is still in high gear today. In his 30s, Matt blazed down a new path of business consulting. He started at Helpside, where he worked with several hundred companies across the state, and then he leaped to Big Leap as the VP of Partnerships. On top of it all, Moody has created a mastermind group of 70+ entrepreneurs and professionals who meet monthly to share life lessons and sincere connections. It’s networking on overdrive.
WORD.
The secret to happiness is helping others to be happy.
“You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.” — Zig Ziglar
COOLEST WORD IN THE WORLD
Love. Without love, nothing else matters.
WORST WORD IN THE WORLD
Hatred.
COOLEST WORK ACCOMPLISHMENT
I received an award from The Younique Foundation: “The Champion’s Heart Award.” I have volunteered for years to bring to light that childhood sexual abuse is an epidemic. The Younique Foundation helps educate children and parents on how to avoid becoming a victim of sexual abuse. I have learned so much from its founders, Shelaine and Derek Maxfield. Their examples of compassion, love, generosity and kindness is truly an inspiration to me.
COOLEST LIFE ACCOMPLISHMENT
I used to be SUPER introverted — the kind of guy who didn’t want to make eye contact in the hall in highschool. That started to change about my senior year, and then it really shifted when I was on an LDS mission. I had a great mentor who taught me to be sincerely interested in others, to value them, and to love them. I am energized by connecting with others and finding ways to serve them.
COOLEST BOOK
“Atomic Habits” by James Clear. Small, consistent, incremental improvements eventually lead to greatness.
COOLEST SONG
“Believe” by Gentri. It gets me every time.
COOLEST PODCAST
“How I Built This” with Guy Raz. So many cool stories of how entrepreneurs got started and eventually found success.
COOLEST CLOTHING
My Jordan shoe collection. I am a sneakerhead because my two sons are sneakerheads. I do whatever it takes to stay cool in their eyes and spend time with them.
COOLEST PART OF YOUR COMPANY
Big Leap is a collection of amazing individuals who truly enjoy spending time with each other. So many talented and kind people.
COOLEST THING ABOUT YOUR EMPLOYEES
They find ways to be involved in the community, focusing on the underserved and less privileged.
COOLEST THING ABOUT OUR
BUSINESS COMMUNITY
I love the explosive growth over the past decade. Utah Valley is fast becoming the place to be, thanks to the talent and work ethic of the people who live here.
COOLEST ENTREPRENEUR YOU KNOW
I cannot think of anyone cooler than Janae Moss. I am in constant awe of how much she gives of herself. She runs seven successful businesses with her husband, Jon, and she serves on several non-profit boards. She is selfless and kind, and I seriously wonder if she ever sleeps.
