UVU | Associate VP, University Relations

Steve Anderson is schooling it. He received a bachelor’s of communication at Utah Valley University, a master’s of strategic communication and leadership at Seton Hall University, and a doctorate of interdisciplinary leadership studies at Creighton University. In 2013, he returned to his green roots as an admissions recruiter at UVU. He then moved into the role of director of community and government relations, and in 2021 became the associate vp of university relations. Live and learn, indeed.
PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENT In 2016 UVU celebrated its 75th Anniversary. I was tasked with heading up the entire university-wide celebration. Events included a commemorative history book, a community concert, and the unveiling of the Roots of Knowledge Windows in the Bingham Gallery on campus. HARDEST MOMENT Early on in my career, I found myself unemployed with a new baby. The unknown of what was to come was tough, but it also afforded me a few months to spend uninterrupted time with our brand-new baby girl. Shortly after, I found my home at UVU and love it! LEADERSHIP STYLE To collaborate and get as much information as possible before making a decision. I want everyone at the table to have a voice and feel like their opinions are heard and considered. I try to foster a fun working environment and have even instituted “Sneaker Friday” in my office. BEST PART OF BEING YOUNG IN BUSINESS So many great opportunities to serve with and learn from great leaders in the community. MAIN MOTIVATION Making a difference in the lives of students. ULTIMATE CAREER DREAM Honestly, I love UVU and could see myself working there for a good portion of my career.
